A Nightmare Begins

Morgana awoke with a small start, forcibly dragging herself from the nightmare that had just been clawing at the corners of her mind. Vague visions had assaulted her; a Cabal facility much like the one she and Nikola had incapacitated, full of scientists and sober suited operatives. And there had been prisoners and screaming there too. Awful screaming full of fear and despair. And, somehow, she'd known who'd been doing it, even from the other side a locked door.

Kate...

Morgana rolled over, concern and confusion gripping her momentarily - how had Kate ended up in the Cabal's hands? What were they doing to her? - before all thoughts were halted when she saw what awaited her on the next pillow.

A single white rose and a note, written in Nikola's delicate hand writing.

'I love you and ask for your forgiveness when I return. Ever yours. Nikola'

Her heart stopped, that sick feeling of absolute dreadful certainty that only a precog could truly get, hitting her hard. She had dreamt this, weeks ago. Nikola had broken into a Cabal facility alone, had been cornered and had had a gun aimed at him, a silver bullet to somewhere even he couldn't survive...

Throwing the note aside, she scrambled out of the silk sheets and hurriedly dressed before quite literally running down the secret staircase to his lab. Fear gripped at her, but it pushed her hard too, certainty of the role she could play driving her on. She had to get to him. In her dream she had been there. She could stop that bullet.

Rushing to his desk, she knew that he would leave nothing sensitive just lying around and so she ignored the papers on top, instead forcing the locked drawer with her mind, mentally pulling it hard enough to break it open. She took out the waiting papers and threw them on the ground, spreading them out.

There, she realised after a moment's search ; a satellite photo of the city with a series of buildings circled in black ink. Shaking hands picked it up and she ran for the door. She had to go and tell Will or James and then they could-

No, they were no good to her. Neither of them would ever let her knowingly go into the heart of a Cabal base even if she begged them. Even if she told them she was the only one who could save Nikola. They wouldn't want her to put herself in danger. And every moment she spent arguing with them about it, was another moment he could die.

But she couldn't get out of here alone...

Instantly it struck her, her fear focused mind recalling the rest of that particular dream. She hadn't been alone of that rescue mission. Kate had been with her, helping her along, breaking in with her.

Kate who she had just dreamt about screaming in a Cabal base.

Oh god...what did she do?

After a moment of hesitation, her resolve steeled. Simple. She would rescue Kate too. If she was the only one that could get her to Nikola on time, then there was no alternative. She liked Kate, she truly did, but Nikola was the love of her life. There was nothing she wouldn't risk for him.

She ran, down the corridors, thankfully passing no one and so avoiding any delaying questions. Then she banged on Kate's door without barely a moment's hesitation. Without contemplating the danger that she might be leading the other woman into, only focused on saving the man she loved.
