Tough reconcilations

Morgana knocked on Kate's door, clutching the print out she'd had Henry recover from the computer system for her. Nikola had said he didn't think that Kate truly appreciated what she had done; Morgana was going to ensure that she was well aware. Then any apology she could muster really would mean something ( Read more... )

Kate's head snapped up sharply at the knock on her door. She was there, of course. Having very little to do within those four walls was a fair price to pay for avoiding the disgust and conflict she encountered outside.

She was hiding, and she knew it. Like if she laid low long enough people would just forget she was there. Kate had always been very good at disappearing.

Hopping up off the bed, she padded over to the door apprehensively, not sure who was on the other side. The last time she'd opened it she'd earned herself the fading bruise she was still sporting across her cheek.

Turning the knob slowly, she opened the door, and her breath caught. Morgana. She'd been half expecting it, after all, Nikola had announced that he'd be telling her. But she'd been hoping it wasn't so soon.

Not saying anything, Kate stepped aside, opening the door wide enough to let the other woman in, ready to take whatever was about to be dished out.

Morgana walked in, straight to business.

"You should see this," she said, passing the printout to Kate.

It was a still from the Cabal security feed Nikola had hacked into. The one that showed him strapped to a table and pinned open like a dissected frog. It was an utterly horrific sight, especially when you knew he was still alive.

Morgana couldn't even look at it. She'd already thrown up once today because of the image.

"That's what they did to him. After they told him I was dead."

Kate flinched, a subtle flash of horror from someone who'd made a career off of hiding her true reactions. Her stomach churned at the pixelated, but still far too vivid image. It must have been after Morgana escaped, after...well, Kate remembered all too well where she herself had been around that time.

God, Thad, her thoughts flashed briefly back to her brother. She couldn't let him get hurt because of this, she'd already failed him too many times.

"Nikola said he didn't think you had any true idea of what the Cabal did after you led me there," she reasoned quietly. "Now you do."
