Basically? THIS. ALL THIS. RIGHT HERE.

I'll hate the writers if Bobby lives, but if they kill him off, I'll really fucking hate them. Either way, it's a shit move.

I mean...I just don't get where they're going with this. SIGH. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

My point exactly. Or: considering that my favorite character at any given point never was named Sam or Dean Winchester, I'm not sure I can be that much invested if it's just the two of them against the world. I mean, it'd be the most fucking depressing thing ever, because at least in S1 they were alone but they had some family alive somewhere, and in S2/3 they had SOME KIND OF SUPPORT SYSTEM, but if going back to the roots means HEY WE KILL EVERYONE... ugh. My firm theory is that SG is catering to the part of the audience who wants the Dean & Sam show and Occasionally Bobby's (but he doesn't steal fangirls/doesn't 'come between' Dean or Sam so he's cool) and everyone else, being it Cas or Jo or Ellen or angels or WHOEVER can just go die. And while I do still enjoy the show having this little voice whispering at me isn't good for keeping the optimism up. It's not even that if Cas is dead then it's the lamest ending that ever was (okay, no, after another one from another show for me, but it'd still rank second), it's that Dean and Sam ( ... )

I definitely think that's what the writers are trying to do - going back to the "roots," making it the Sam-and-Dean-Show again. But my thing has always been that the supporting characters tell us more about Sam and Dean than we would ever know otherwise. I mean, Bobby provides half of the boys' emotional conversations right there, and the other characters are the catalysts for a lot more of them. I'm all about focusing back on them...but...for me, I DO need more than just the two of them. It's not interesting otherwise. And, I mean, WHAT was the point of everything they went through if they're just alone again at the end?

And, yes. I REALLY liked the ep up until the end, and now I'm just frustrated :/

I feel like there needs to be a balance on the show between feeling/experiencing the isolation and angst of the boys, how insular and claustrophobic their world is, as well as being afforded the opportunity--through secondary characters--to see someone else's outsider pov of the boys and of the world they inhabit. I enjoy seeing the boys' understandably skewed view of how the world is, knowing what's really out there, etc. but then also seeing how 'normal' people who don't live their lifestyle see them in relation to that civilian view of 'reality.' And then we have a bridge between the two worlds in the form of characters like Bobby and Ellen and even Cas who, like the boys, have a foot in both worlds and offer a view of the boys as both hunters and as young men who struggle to exist and find meaning in the life they find themselves living. Since these characters (Bobby, etc.) do know and understand what the boys deal with, they are able to offer the boys at least some sense of comfort and 'family' and a support structure outside of ( ... )

Ok, SO MUCH this! I love this comment, and I agree with it completely :)You've really put your finger on WHY there need to be supporting characters in this world. I'm fine with the focus of the show being on Sam/Dean, but you've said perfectly why it just feels so hopeless if it is just them. I love this reasoning - I'm totally keeping it in mind now :)

(Also, gorgeous icon btw :)

Aww, you've made me blush! And I agree, Dean is gorgeous to look at, ha. I confess I started out a Sam girl and still am, basically, even after the whole Ruby debacle, sigh; but I must say Dean has grown on me and Jensen just gets more attractive to me with each passing year; those crinkles he's getting around his eyes now are so, so sexy, I can't stand it!

Yep, Jensen really does get better with age! I'm more of a Dean girl myself, but of course I love Sam too :) And there's somrthing to be said for loyalty, so good for you!

Haha sigh, I guess. I'm slightly less upset now than I was that night, but I still pretty much think all this :/
