Nelson Mandela is a living treasure and a true political hero, but I have to give my vote to Lincoln.
He abolished slavery and sought to do away with the burgeoning class system in America. On top of that, his cabinet was made of up the guys he beat in the political races leading up to the Presidency. Dude basically lived the RPG cliche of "you beat me, guess I'll join you." HE DID THAT IN REAL LIFE. WITH MEN WHO SHOT EACH OTHER FOR FAR LESSER OFFENSES.

His actions also shaped the American republican party (which was then changed by Reagan and others) into a progressive and forward looking organization. He also is basically the hero in a Tom Clancy book. Good-hearted, but politically naive folk hero sets out in politics to truly improve his country out of patriotism. Meets up with diverse crew of characters who back him up while he deals with personal threats. Finally reaches main office, only to be confronted with one of the worst crises ever to strike a nation.

And he kicked the hell out of all of that.

I briefly worked at a toy store. We had to play childrens' music all the dang time. So Raffi kind of makes me rage a little...

Abie Baby is my number one superhero for many many reasons. But since we're talking civil rights specifically, I had to go with Mandela.

Zach just finished reading this obscenely long Lincoln biography and he's related to me much of the more interesting bits. He was a fascinating guy, political prowess and otherwise.

Look at the cover. Mandela's struttin like he's in a John Woo flick. Lincoln
s fighting along Cap and Spidey. This is a no brainer.
