So I never mentioned before what happened to my brother-in-law. He was too lazy to drill into the walls and put in a proper baby gate at the top of the stairs. Instead he got one of those ones that you adjust the ends and they hold by pushing against both walls, but they have a bar at the base on the floor. Bad enough on a floor but a real trip hazard on top of a staircase. I mentioned this several times.
He was packing up some stuff and we think the doorbell rang and he tried to run down the stairs and tripped on the bar of the babygate, tumbling down the entire staircase and breaking his neck, killing him instantly.
It's a blessing he wasn't holding the baby, didn't injure anyone else, didn't fall on the dog who often slept near the bottom of the stairs. It's good the kids weren't in the house at the time, though not good when my sister found him and had to shoo the kids back outside to the car while she called for help.
So yeah, be careful of baby gates.
Listen when someone gives you a warning.
And never piss off a witch.
