Persecution - Apology to Offenses this Will Cause

I don't know how many people have heard, but in Great Britain and Portugal, there are now ads on the sides of buses questioning the existence of God. As this has occurred, many Christians have started complaining about how offensive it is or how they are feeling persecuted. My question is, how is this any different from advertisements and ( Read more... )

Thanks. I need to clarify sometimes because people really do get offended. And many of the Christians I have dealt with online get really upset when we mention that if they think being made fun of is persecution then they've never really experienced persecution. I'm sure there are places where Christians suffer as much persecution as I have or as my friend Nick has... but when US Christians whine about persecution because someone made fun of Jesus... I get really upset. Worse is when they call persecution because we don't agree with their faith. If that's persecution, then 97% of the world is persecuting me right now!

Oh, and I just want to say that I'm glad you are one of LJ friends :)
It's just nice to know that there are other people out there that feel the same way I do :)

Thank you on both accounts. ffrf.org looks like a good site... and when I have time and am not so in need of sleep, I'll poke around a lot more! It is good to find other freethinkers out there, even if we are just cyber-buddies.

You're preaching to the choir sister! (hehe)

There are Christians like John, who, while an amazing person, you wouldn't even think was a Christian because he's so mellow about it, and often criticizes and ridicules what Christianity as an organized religion has become.

And then there are Christians like my old friend from high school, who writes LJ entries going on and on about how upset and offended they are when they read news articles about a public library ceasing to display a Christmas tree this year.

Aye, I have friends like that too. I just can't understand how they can get so offended when we put up signs etc. but feel free to post their stuff all over the place. If you're going to force your religion down our throats, at least let us voice our opinion every once in a while.
