Last year I saw the Vagina Monologues done at my school. There were some parts where I blushed. However it is not pornography at least the production I saw. No one had sex on stage! I don't think the play degrades men or women. There are some bad men out there that do bad things. But the play doesn't just focus on bad men. I also think that the play is really about empowerment of women. The true message is to love yourself and to be who you are. Is that a bad message? I don't think so...
I honestly can't believe that that was published in a campus newsletter. Maybe it's because I'm not on that campus. Maybe it's because factions of ignorance will always exist. This is directed at the writer in particular, and everyone else who even *questions* the integrity of our mission

I was reading this article, and I realized a few things...I looked at the language they used and I think its funny they used the term "social deviency" which if they knew would it meant, its doesnt mean bad (the context they use it in) its means to be different, or not following social norms. Also I think they, as well as so many other people missed the true message of the monologues...the oppression and the continued violence that happens to women on a daily basis. I also might have said this about the last article, but at the risk of sounding redundant...NO ONE ASKED YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES! So, if you dont to see it, you dont have to, and dont bother the people that want to see it. One last thing, they refered to the monologues as "pornography"...I am sorry, but there is a lot worse out there that really is pornography, and this is a piece of art, not porn.
