Character Information
Name: Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka
Canon Origin/Series: Ouran High School Host Club
School Year: 7th
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Out of school living location: Yorkshire, UK
Blood status: Pureblood

Personality: Takashi Morinozuka, or "Mori" as he's simply called, is man of few words. He isn't shy or stubborn or reluctant to speak, he just doesn't talk unless it's really necessary, and doesn't say much more than what he needs to say. Despite this seemingly-unapproachable trait, Mori has an air about him that's considerably easygoing and refreshing; even if he's just standing there, quietly observing the scenery, being around him is sorta nice. It helps that he seems to like small, cute things; and well, nothing makes a guy less intimidating like being surrounded by tiny animals and birds.

This is probably due to Mori's caring and protective nature. While he can go with the flow easily and take things in silent stride, he becomes fiercely determined when his friends (and mostly his cousin, Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka,) are in any sort of danger or trouble. When that happens, stay out of his way because he will drop-kick and plow through anything that gets between him and his friends. He can be pretty intense when he's on a mission like that.

Being tall, dark and taciturn, Mori feels responsible for taking care of his friends, and can grow pretty depressed when they get hurt for something he feels is his fault, which is a lot easier than it sounds. Even if he only had a minor role in someone's issue (be it a tooth-ache or an argument with your brother), Mori can easily blame in himself over what he could or couldn't have done. In those cases, he takes up that responsibility by doing everything he can to make the problem right, often taking this retribution to extremes in hopes of angering the people he's trying to help. He does this to ease his own guilt; rather than beat himself up over it, he'd rather someone else beat him up. (Of course, he tones this down for everyone else, it only gets that far when Honey is involved.)

Oh and by the way, when he's sleepy, he turns into a completely different guy. All smiles and chattering... it's kind of unnerving coming from such an otherwise-stoic dude.

Canon Background:
The Morinozuka family has had a long history of protecting and serving the Haninozuka family. Although the two families have long-since intermarried and are on equal terms, Mori continues to treat his cousin with service-like devotion and care, though the two have forged a close friendship from the bond and wouldn't have it any other way. It isn't a stretch to say that Mori follows Honey wherever he goes, mostly so that he can keep an eye on him and protect him at all times.

That aside, Mori is a third-year high school student of the SUPER-ULTRA-PRESTIGIOUS/EXPENSIVE Ouran High School in Japan. Going to this school (and affording it) means Mori's family is one of the richest of the rich families in Japan. He's a member of the Kendo club (the National Champion, actually) and the Martial Arts club, and has a little brother that looks up to him and for whom he cares for very deeply (in his own, quiet, stoic way of course). These are most of the things that affect Mori outside the Host Club. What is the Host Club? Well...

When Mori was just about starting high school (that is, tenth grade,) he and Hunny were approached by Tamaki Suoh with the idea of forming a Host Club. The Host Club would be a place where a few handsome guys could be themselves and still "service" girls by talking to them, listening to them, or by simply standing there and looking pretty. It turns out, Honey was feeling pressured into changing who he was because he liked stuffed animals, sweets and other cute things, despite having long past the age where you'd outgrow them. When Tamaki approached him with the idea of a Host Club, he told Hunny that it was okay to be that way if that made him happy, and that in the Host Club he could help others by spreading that joy. Seeing the club as an opportunity for Hunny to be himself and actually benefit others for it, Mori told Honey to follow his heart, and the two have been on board ever since.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
For generations upon generations, the Morinozuka family has served the Haninozuka family. Years ago, these families were among the highest "producers" of Aurors and high-ranking Magical authorities and were admired in the magical community for their strong ties to tradition and blood-purity. Needless to say, children born from the Haninozuka and Morinozuka families are almost guaranteed natural talent and magical fortitude. That hadn't changed much until recently, when the families finally intermarried and joined, but for once it was not to better their blood, but simply out of love. When this happened, the heads of the families decided it was time to move on from their cattle-like, master-and-servant practices and into a more useful, humanitarian way of living. Nowadays, the two families mostly excel at dueling magic and are known for their efforts in training young Aurors and other civil servants in the Ministry. You'd be surprised how well the Ministry pays...

In any case, it came as no surprise when Takashi's Hogwarts letter arrived. He was already attending a Magical School for exceptionally talented (and exceptionally rich) children, and his cousin, Mitsukuni, received the letter on the same day. He didn't show it at the time, but the moment Takashi learned he was accepted into Hogwarts, his first thought was "Was Mitsukuni accepted as well?"

Mitsukuni always comes first.

Already caring for a younger brother and a (seemingly) younger cousin, Takashi has always been a mature kid for his age; always quiet, tall, and responsible. With his heritage and upbringing, it was no surprise that he excelled in his classes, kept watch over his cousin, and still managed to be pretty popular among his classmates. All the while, true to his blood, he excelled at dueling, spell-casting, and basically classes that had you working under pressure.

Takashi isn't just a cut-out of his family's skills, of course. He has something of a knack for dealing with Magical Creatures; perhaps its his silent appreciation of them, or just a natural vibe he gives off, but animals just sort of calm down when they're around him, and if they don't then he has the patience to calm them down. His father has always been progressive when it comes his sons and their choices, so he's happily backs Takashi's hobbies as much as he can.

Although Takashi is well on his way to becoming an Auror, his father has told him that he doesn't have to be one for his family's sake. Still, Takashi wants to make his dad proud and keep the family name in high esteem, even if... even if taking care of a Puffskein would probably be more fun.

Mori's electives; History of Magic, Care of Magical Creatures (His favorite class.)

Mandatory; Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Charms, and Herbology, Pre-Auror Studies.

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor; Mori is valiant, there's no doubt of that. If Honey is in trouble, he will fight anything that gets in his way and show no fear. He has strong, personal sense of what is right, but doesn't impose it on other people, just as long as they're not bothering anyone else.

Slytherin; Mori is a pureblood, and how. He has no clue what Muggle life is like (can't tell a microwave from a toaster); he doesn't look down on it, it's just a different lifestyle from his, that's all. However, aside from that, Mori isn't the type to seek his own ambitions when he can aid in the ambitions of others. It's not to say that he lacks leadership, far from it; his nature is often seen as quite admirable he's easily the type that people follow and admire, but these things would happen more inadvertently than anything else. Mori prefers being the right-hand, not the leader.

Hufflepuff; When people think of Mori, they picture him at his cousin's side; loyal, observant, and tolerant. His personality is all about it; this is the Mori everyone sees. He nods and listens, silently accepting and following orders to his best ability. Rest assured, he'd die for Mitsukuni (he won't, because he knows he'd be sad of course,) and he values that connection dearly. He watches out for his friends and the people around him and always pours his heart into everything he does. It's a bit hard to tell 'cause he's always so stalwart, but needless to say, Mori doesn't believe things should be done half-way.

Ravenclaw; You wouldn't know it by looking at him, but Mori is really smart. Inside that brain of his lies generations of pureblooded Wizarding talent, and while he doesn't try to stand out, it shows. Mori's a natural at almost everything he does, he observes like a hawk and notices things many others wouldn't. This insight is a part of him not many people see, what with him being so quiet, but it's no accident that he's the Dueling Club's star student, and he didn't get there through brute force. Only by anticipating his challengers moves has he gotten this far, and only a sound, agile mind can conjure up a perfect counter within a split second.

Sample Journal Entry:
[ Let's brush over the fact that Mori's the last guy you'd want to give announcement-duty to. ]

Dueling club meets tomorrow after dinner.

Skirmish match. It's open to everyone. You should go. [ Yes, that's directed at everyone. ]

Sample Interaction Post in Third Person:
It's not a particularly interesting class anyway, Mori thinks, but Honey seems to find it fascinating. Transfiguration. The teacher goes on and on about how easy it is for you to carry just about anything nowadays. He makes mention of men carrying tents, automobiles, even boats, all in objects no larger than a pin. It's interesting, naturally, but he fails to mention that that sort of scale takes ages. Mori takes mental notes, staring intermittently as a few students raise their hands, but makes no move past tilting his head and observing his cousin, Honey, who is seated next to him.

Eyes aglow, Honey is at the edge of his seat, taking down notes and smiling in a way that says he's going to try it the second class lets out. His questions, always brights and cheery, are relentless nonetheless. "How big can the first thing be?" or "If you transfigure a box, do the insides gets smushed?" The teacher seems honestly pleased to find someone so interested in the subject, but Mori knows why Honey is so invested; it's a brand new and efficient way to hide his sweets. A new way for him to carry four slices of cake on his person at all times.

In other words, one more thing for Mori to look out for. Without Mori to look after him, if Honey keeps eating like that, it'll only be a matter of time before he gets a cavity, and he can't have that. The thought of his cousin in pain sends shivers down his spine. 'Think, Takashi, think,' and then it hits him.

"Takashi? Something wrong?" Honey looks up at him, noting his gaze had gone serious. The class must have let up too, because students all around were shuffling in and out.

"It's nothing, Mitsukuni." The taller boy shakes his head. "Do you want to study this together later?"

"Yeah!" Honey beams, his intentions so innocently obvious, even if only to Mori himself. Nodding, Mori picks up his books and follows his tiny, energetic cousin out.

Where Honey daydreams about transfiguring cake, Mori wonders how to transfigurate a toothbrush and floss. They wouldn't have it any other way.
