Wow.

We have hit parity.

As of today the Canadian dollar is worth the same as the U.S. dollar.

Hard to wrap the brain around.

U.S. shopping trip, anyone?

Well, it probably won't be allowed to go much further before the Bank of Canada drops interest rates to cool things off again.

Of course at the same time, apart from some moves to bail out the idiotic sub-prime lending sector, the Bush administration shows no signs of abandoning the boneheaded economic policies that have caused the greenback to utterly tank, which is the main reason the loonie is where it now is.

Other than Bush admincompetence, are there any reasons why this is happening?

High commodity prices.
Metals prices have risen sharply and the Canadian mining industry has been doing very well. Also they're predicting a bumper crop year for wheat and wheat prices are way up. All that is bouying our economy a lot. Investors are flocking to our commodity sectors.

Mmmmm. Shopping. Except for that not-having-a-cent-to-our-names thing.

I would so totally love to do a cross-boarder shopping trip. I've never done one, and as much as I prefer to shop locally, every girl deserves *one* shopping adventure in another country!

I don't think I've ever really done cross-border shopping in person, I've only ever done it online.

(Psst, could you Friend me again? I've always enjoyed seeing you talk about your daughters. :) )
