Computer woes

Does anyone computer-savvy know what might be wrong if my laptop just shuts itself off after about half an hour? It started a few weeks ago. I can't figure it out, but it's quite inconvenient. Any advice would be much appreciated.

if you have xp you could go to microsoft's site and download their windows anti-spyware software.. it did wonders when my old computer was having trouble :)

Take it to my boss, Peter, in the library, and ask him if he has any ideas about what might be wrong. Also, talk to Kenneth. He's a computer savvy guy, and he might be able to fix it if it is a virus problem or something similar. It might be the power supply...you aren't talking about when it's not plugged in, right? Cause that would most likely be the battery. Is it always half an hour? or does it happen irregularly? I've had problems like that, but I have no idea how to fix it. Sorry!

possibly battery-related? would be my first guess. doesn't sound like spyware/viruses, though it's possible. check your power-managemrnt settings in the bios and in the control panel. Does it shut off if you're connected to AC power?

Another possibility is that your processor might be overheating.... maybe. actually, i'm not really sure if that's very likely or not, but you might check that your fan vent isn't getting covered up by anything.

Sorry, i might be able to do more if i were there. but i'm in california, and i'm typing one-handed. :D
