I'm... vaguely disappointed, actually. Eh. It's nice to see Kubo reusing old characters instead of endlessly creating new ones, but... I hope it's just an imposter Kaien. Otherwise it kind of cheapens things.
Well, Aizen created that Hollow Kaien fought in an attempt to fuse Hollows and Shinigami, so Kaien could actually be the first Vaizard/Arrancar in existence. A failure, but one Aizen kept around(though his "corpse" was delivered to Kuukaku and Ganjuu).
My first thought was a shapeshifter, but why would an Espada need to use a trick like that on subcaptain-level Shinigami? Presumably he could kill her in a single hit, especially with her back turned.
I usually hate stuff like this(I read Marvel/DC, where it happens almost monthly), but in this case, her guilt and all that would still be there. I mean, what's worse, killing someone you love, or turning them into an evil zombie soldier working to destroy heaven and earth? >_>;
You have a very good point, and I agree with you. Hehe, sorry; just stoppin' in at this thread to see what everyone else thought & saw your little message ^^
*laugh* Yeah, that's what was bothering me - in Marvel/DC comics, you expect dead characters to be back in a week! Kaien had better not turn into Superman or Jean Grey or anything... >__> And like everyone, I'm kind of confused by what happens if you die in Soul Society. Of course Kaien's entire death could have been one of Aizen's illusions, allowing Kaien to defect and work behind the scenes for years without anyone in Soul Society knowing. I'm not really thrilled with that scenario either, but at least it would spare us angsting, wibbly Rukia and give us pissed off, ass-kicking Rukia... I'm happy with Orihime, at least! I want to know what Ulquiorra said to anger her, but perhaps she finally remembered where her backbone was!

Also, is he a Vaizard? I mean, he was Shinigami first.

Or else being possessed by the Hollow turned him into a Hollow.
