TfA, Bay Area, Thesis

I've applied to Teach for America. I'll know in mid-November whether I've got in and where I'll be exactly. I have a strong preference for the San Francisco Bay area (East Bay), along with probably 99% of their applicants, but I've got a reason, and if I get in and they don't put me there then I probably won't take the offer. Basically, my ( Read more... )

i miss the full-throttle seasons of the east coast, but the east bay seasonal changes are nice (albeit subtle).

the two locations in east bay are oakland and richmond, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll put me in one of those two places (preferably oakland; I find richmond kind of boring).

not sure whether I'm moving with tracy. we don't want to be making plans around each other and compromising any opportunities, but it could well be that we both end up out there. I mean, just the fact that I'll probably be in the bay area makes it much more likely that we'll be together. we just don't want to plan for a year from now and build everything around each other; that seems naive. and probably not smart.

but, between you and me, I really hope she'll come. :-)

oakland is much cooler. i live in the rockridge area of oakland.

i realized after i posted that i wasn't even sure if you and tracy were still together - eek! but i'm glad to see i wasn't totally in poor form. i think it's a good idea not to plan your futures around each other. but there's no problem hoping that your futures will coincide. :)

Good for you -- TFA is an important program! devifemme February 17 2008, 18:56:33 UTC
Dear E -- We just met on-line, and I invited you to friend me, if you enjoyed my little LJ blog.

Hey, just reading around in your blog -- very sensitive and open. I admire your caring about your "decrepid" grandparents, and I hope the TFA to the Bay Area comes through for you. (You've evidently concluded it's about all you can do with a philosophy degree...heehee!)

I also liked your post about the annoying hetero girl who passed by, bitching about Holyoak's gay girls. I was in the closet a lot of years, myself; being out (even on-line) is so great!

Hugs, J

I didn't actually get into TfA, so... I've got to find a job somewhere. But I'm still definitely going to the Bay.

and yes, annoying hetero girls = not so much fun. Luckily, I can avoid them fairly easily. That won't be the case for much longer, though, sadly... I graduate in May and then I will have to be a part of a world in which homos aren't as visible :-(

Ah, but the Bay Area is a promising place for lezzies. Lots of places to meet and socialize. (What the grannies don't know won't hurt...you! A cute roommate, to them, is a normal thing.)

A CA native, I wish sometimes I still lived there -- but the career took me lots of great places! And I do like FL.

Yet mo' hugs! J
