Yes! I am. I will be home starting on May 26th until mid-June (the date is uncertain, but probably I'll be leaving somewhere between the 12th and the 15th).

north berkeley! that's where my partner lives, and where i used to live a year ago. if you want me to help by checking out apartments (seeing what neighborhoods they're in), let me know. i'm always on my bike.

it's exciting that you'll be here!

I know, I'm really excited!!

The apartment we're subletting for the summer is on MLK at Vine. We're subletting from two grad students, one of whom studies ancient literature (Hebrew, Greek, Canaanite myth) and is going to Berlin for the summer, and the other of whom studies Syro-Palestinian archaeology and is going on a dig. Pretty neat. We figured subletting for the summer would mean that in looking for a long-term lease, we can actually go see the apartment in person. For a two-month sublet, that's not so important. But we've seen pictures of it and it's a two-story townhouse with hardwood floors and I'm really happy about it.

Where do you live now? Do you know anything about the area we'll be in, other than that it's in North Berkeley and so near the gourmet ghetto part of town?

um so... i lived exactly on MLK and Vine when i first moved to berk. How funny!! I lived in the basement of the little blue house on that corner. a fellow grad student of mine in the department also lives on MLK and Vine, in the next house over.

yes, i know the neighborhood well. it's pretty nice. yes, you're near lots of good food. you're about equidistant between the north berkeley bart and downtown bart. one vine street, a few blocks up, there is the most amazing wine store, and the original peet's store (before it became a chain).
