sitting in a room...

I saw Rooms: A Rock Romance on Sunday, you guys. It was fantastic. Over all, just a fantastic day. I was told to write a long post recounting the day, so I will.

It was me, Evel Jic, Annie, Mel, Jess and Reenie going. I can’t remember much of the car ride to New York other then we played Things. I don’t know if any of you have ever played it, but we didn’t play it right. We just took the cards out, and they say things on them like “Things that shouldn’t be on billboards” (that’s just an example) and we went around naming things. And somehow, for one of the cards, two of the answers happened to be babies and explosives, and we figured out that they’re possible answers for everything. It was amusing.

So we ate at McDonalds and talked High School Musical with Annie, and walked past the Al Hirschfield, and talked about the Spring Awakening tour until we got to New World Stages and THAT IS WHERE we found out that the show was not at one like we had be told, but it was at three. And it was twelve when we got there. Yep. So we sat at New World Stages on the seat under the Rooms poster. A lot can happen in a few hours at New World Stages with your friends.

-Someone, can’t remember who, suggested that we play Spoons, and Mel pulled out cards. But there were no spoons, so we played with pens. Annie proceeded to suck, Reenie didn’t get it for a few minutes, and Jess and me watched in amusement.

-Annie took pictures of the poster for me! Bad news is I can’t find the thing that hooks my camera up to the computer, so until I get a new one, you all shall just have to live without. Try to contain your sorrow.

-I can’t remember what else happened while we were waiting there…

-We were sitting outside where you go into the actual theater and GUESS WHO WE SAW WALKING BY! Leslie! Leslie Kritzer! I can’t even remember who saw her first, but she just walked by and we were all like “LESLIE!” and she was like “Hi! Are you guys here to see the show?” and we were like “Yeah!” and she was like “Great! I’ll be good, I promise. I have to go get pretty now.” and seriously, how could she be any prettier? Like, look at this girl, just look at her.

She is nothing but gorgeous.

Holy crap. This show is incredible. It’s just the sweetest, funniest, heart breaking story, and it has the most amazing music, and the cast is absolutely perfect, and you know what? It’s only two people. And it barely has a set, and the band is only five people, and the theater’s all tiny, but it’s so perfect for it. Not many things have me seriously laughing and crying but Rooms managed to do it. Really, I never cry at shows. I can’t ever bring myself to do it, but when I saw the emotion that Leslie was putting into her song, and the tears that you could see in her eyes, I lost it. And then I cried a little at the curtain call because Leslie and Doug looked so happy and so surprised that people loved them that much, and they were so sweet and so cute, and I love both of them so much. And sitting in the front row just made the whole experience crazier and even more awesome. It takes more then a few words to sum up Leslie and Doug, so I think I’m gonna need to do what Evel Jic did and talk about them separately.

Leslie Kritzer: Oh my god, I really didn’t think I would fall in love with her as much as I did. She makes you laugh hysterically at how over the top Monica can be, and then she breaks your heart when you see how much she changes. The woman is a fantastic performer, and she’s absolutely gorgeous. And honestly? Her Scottish accent is so good that if I didn’t know she wasn’t Scottish, I would think she was. She’s so perfect for Monica in every single way too. I can’t imagine anyone else playing her. Her voice is this CRAZY, marvelous thing and her acting is just ohmygod. She knows when to do little things like touch her hair or fix her boots, and when she comes onto the stage, she demands everyone’s attention. You gotta love anyone that can do that. She’s just brilliant. I don’t even know what to say. You need to see her.

Doug Kreeger: He’s adorable. Just adorable. And again, he’s the only one I could see playing Ian. It’d be so easy to make him someone I hated, and make him someone that I didn’t feel bad for at all and someone that I just thought was an asshole, but he makes you feel for him and love him, even when he’s doing the worst stuff. And Doug’s got these crazy facial expressions, and he uses them so well. And like Leslie, he’s a great actor. And it shows especially in his songs that he gets to sing alone, like “Clean” and “Fear of Flying”. And his voiiiice. It’s so pretty. And he and Leslie have awesome chemistry. They look so good together. I love Doug. You need to see him too.

So anyway, more on the cutest curtain call I’ve ever seen: they were both absolutely adorable. They came out of the kickass door, and they were like SMILING, really big and they both looked so happy. And I’m pretty sure we were the first ones to stand, but I don’t know. I couldn’t see anyone because we were in the FUHRONT(: Yeah, SO, we’re standing and clapping and they’re bowing, and Leslie looked right at us and said, “Oh, hi!” and when Doug bowed, he smiled at Evel Jic and mouthed “Hello!” and it was just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. And they both started bowing again and Leslie mouths “Wow!” to Doug, and OH MY GOD, I teared up just seeing that. It was so cute. And when they were walking out (through the awesome door) Doug was all “peace”. Except he didn’t say peace, he was all

…that needed to make a comeback.

Let me say now, there’s really no way of stagedooring at New World Stages. I don’t know if any of you have ever been there, but it’s like one big building with a bunch of different theaters. So no stagedoor. Basically, we were like “Okay, that encounter with Leslie is the only one we’re gonna get, but that’s fine, because HELLO it’s Leslie stopping what she’s doing to talk to us.”

So we exit the theater, and Jess had to go to bathroom and Reenie took her and told us to wait where we were. So me, Mel, Evel Jic, and Annie are standing there, and talking about the show, and Evel Jic’s like “How long do you think we should wait here?” and I’m like *shrug* and Mel goes “Let’s go downstairs to wait for them.” so we’re walking down the stairs and Evel Jic’s like “I wonder if there’s any way of seeing them when they come out.” And I’m like “Well, we could go get some people and get everyone to stand at different exits and then call us when they come. And then we discussed how we would distract them while the rest of us got there, if this situation were to happen. AND THIS IS WHEN I saw Doug come out from upstairs and I just start going

“Doug’s leaving, Doug’s leaving, Doug’s leaving!”

And Evel Jic turns around, and she’s like “Are you sure?”

And I’m like “Yes!” so me and her look at each other and just start RUNNING up the stairs, and I’m not sure how long it took for Mel and Annie to start following us, because I heard Mel tell us that we looked stupid, but you know. It’s DOUG. And when we got up there, a few people had stopped Doug to talk to him, and Leslie had come out by then too, and a few people had stopped her, and we were just like GKAHGJHA IT’S THEM OH MY GODDDD.

So we’re standing there, and Leslie’s people walk away, and Leslie comes RIGHT over to us without us even saying anything, and we just start talking to her. We told her how much we loved the show, and she was like, genuinely thankful when she said thank you, and she was just like totally and completely sweet and adorable. And she was like, asking us where we live, and she told us where she lived, and asked us how old we were, and what grade we were in, and she gave us hugs. OH, AND Doug was walking away, and Evel Jic’s like “Wait! Doug!” and he turned around and smiled and waved at us and started walking away again and Leslie was like “Oh, yeah, he gets tired after shows.” But for some reason I was totally okay with not meeting him, just because I got the sweetest wave ever. Annnnnnnnnnd…yeah, when we were getting ready to go, Leslie was like, “Okay. Now I’m gonna go order some food.” and she walked with us out, and this is when I saw her ADORABLE Legally Blonde sweatpants that said “Omigod!” on the ass. And normally, ass words bug me, but hers were just so cute, and I told her that I liked her pants and she was like “Oh, yeah! Omigod!”

She was Serena in the OBC if you’re not IN THE KNOW.

And then we got in the car and went to Evel Jic, Mel, and Jess’s grandparents apartment where we proceeded to eat cake, not know what channel the Food Network was, and go to the PARK! It was fun. We sat on the swings, and we were discussing Rooms, Leslie, Doug, Wicked and a bunch of other stuff. AND ALSO. We saw JON RUA. You guys know Jon Rua! Usnavi understudy, Sonny understudy…this guy, if you still don’t know who I’m talking about:

He was there! At the park! With his child!

HA. APRIL FOOLS. There was a guy there with a kid though, and he looked a LOT like Jon Rua. Like a LOT.

So on the ride back, I don’t remember us doing anything besides discussing Rooms. Nothing that I can really remember. And Evel Jic refuses to refresh my memory because she hates me, so yeah, SORRY. I have a bad memory for that stuff.

It was a really good day. I would do it over and over again a million times. And the show? I would go see that over and over again a million times too.

What a good show. You guys. I don’t even know, just go buy tickets. If you’re gonna take any of my advice, go see this show. Please, please, please. Don’t say that you will and then don’t, because that’ll just make me mad. Don’t let the fact that it’s off-Broadway, or only has two people, or anything like that discourage you. Go buy tickets now. I can promise you that you won’t regret it. If you’re nervous about not hearing any of the music, go on roomsmusical.com and listen a bit of the music on there. It’s not much, but it’ll convert you, I promise. It’s such a good show, seriously. And it needs to run forever and ever. So go see it, and thank me later. Do you hear me, friendslist? Do it. You won’t regret it, I promise.
I PROMISE.

That was long.
It's times like these that I'm so glad I have my cuts back.

Go see Rooms.
