A happy mom and dad.  When the parents are truly in love, everything else will follow.

Let us not forget communication.

Even with happy parents, they still need to be able to talk to the kids and vice versa.

Let us not forget the sex. Gratuitous amounts of hot nasty sex while the child is sleeping, or at school, or out somewhere. At least it helps for Josh and I... XP
