go to a university library and look up "literary criticism"
that is my major, but i havne't had to do that "what makes classic literature" paper yet.
From what little I know, you need to look at universality of themes, an element of subversive behavior (maybe), synthesis and preservation of cultures within the text, and accesibilty to readers. Was the text available only to the upper class or was it circulated among all castes of a society? This is honestly just what I thought of in about 30 seconds, but for sources you NEED to find some good lit crit journals. Take 2 or 3 days and just bury yourself in tomes. It will take a good 3 or 4 hours to find anything relevant in a library.
good luck! oh- and drop me a line if you need more help. I'll do my best becuase I am BORED! And if you finish with like a week or two to go, i'd love to edit your paper. I need practice, and I won't be offended if you diregard all the changes I suggest. PLEASE of PLEASE let me edit your paper? ^_^
well. here's the thing. i do basically all my research online. either within CSUN's online archive or UCLA. And because they are such extensive online archives, they have pretty much everything that i need. I rarely find something that i can only get from the school. [UCLA has the largest online archive, second to the library of congress]
Research isn't that big of a problem, i'm probably searching it with the wrong key words.
it's not really literary criticism, we did literary criticism for our midterm paper.
i'll let you read it IF i can write it with enough time left. It's due in the 9th of January. :/ SO we'll see
Well, the thing is that since i've been moving, i haven't been able to do any of it. I'm doing mine off Les Miserables, so I haven't actually read the whole book yet, since i read it in Talbot's. I wanted to start researching with the classic literature so that way i would have everything done in time and worry about the book afterwards. you know??
eek! Keep working. I know it isn't a lit crit paper, but there will be a lot of information by professors in that field who are trying to figure out exactly what makes literature last. The thing with that is that most are not published online- they will be published in university presses and in literature journals, which require you to actually turn pages with your fingers. See if you can find a paper by Jody Enders.
no- they really are NOT all online. it feels like it, but there are definately relevent things galore in the microfiche and the scary back room and i think the top floor of CSUN has a corner actually dedicated to printed journals- most of which don't have an online counter part.
