I had kind of a scare today. Sunday night I got really sick, realized for the second time that I do not have a thermometer, and guessed that I had a fever and called in sick (3rd sick day in two monthes of my new job). Usually I can turnover in a day (note: I've been somewhat sick for two and a half weeks, like the rest of the world). But last night though I didn't have a fever any more, I had spent very little time awake, eaten even less, and could barely stand up and walk across the room.
I called my boss again, saying I was sick, got someone to cover for me, and said I would go to the doctors or the hospitol. (Un)Fortunatly, I live two blocks away from Somerville Hospitol, probably The Worst Hospitol in the Boston Area. My good friend had her lung collapse and had mono go un-diagnosed and un-treated for monthes because of them. So getting to a decent hospitol is somewhat of an ordeal.
Luckily, my doctor could squeeze me in, only to tell me that the sypmtoms I was describing sounded very much like The Flu, and if it was I WOULD NOT BE ALOUD TO GO TO WORK. Much easier to say when the doctor says it than self-diagnosis. Unfortunately that would mean canceling several other things that I care about, and have been trying very hard to keep going for. Luckily, it's just ten minute test for Flu, and I don't have it. What I have is Strep. Now considering I had Strep/Tonsilitus so bad last year I could barely breath, I don't take this lightly (that and it's extremely dangerous to have your tonsils out as an adult). So as much as I HATE antibiotics, and would rather get better on my own with warm tea and lots of soup, I'm glad I went, and glad I don't have The Flu.
Be careful everyone, a lot of people are getting sick. Don't put off going to your doctor.
