So I've just realized that I've turned my back on a lot of people

I wouldn't count that as a major contributor (though it didn't help) mainly because of my astounding need for it during the weekends so that I could survive the week. It wasn't so much recreational as much as it was for survival; I would've killed someone a long time ago had it not been for pot.
