It amuses me that USA would make a movie about Spartacus pretty much ripping off Braveheart-including the eponymous hero charging into battle crying "Freeeeeeeedooooom!" It even has Angus MacFadyen (who played Robert the Bruce) in it.
It amuses me even more when they premiere it right after showing Braveheart.

Though, I must say, as far as historical figures go- there are few major sorts- glorified in stories and what not- as similar as say Spartacus and William Wallace, the advertising certainly wasn't that coincidental. Right along another hero-focused epic deal.
Spartacus & Wallace- 'gainst overwhelming odds & oppressors with many notable victories.
both fought ferociously, one could say.
both died being all rogue and shit. (okay maybe i'm off on that with William Wallace, its been a while since i was educated on him.)
Both had large and loyal type followings in their anti-big guys moving in efforts.
Both would be found attractive by Tony Curtis...oops- 'kay maybe not.
