Even just moving in the water can be great exercise and I believe it is used in rehab quite a bit. Now if your not fortunate enough to have access to a pool there is still hope. My advice is to aim the knee toward the second and third toe and always keep the knee directly above the ankle. I think Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi are all good exercises when done properly and with good form for the knees....but keep in mind Tai Chi is great if you have the right teacher but finding the right one is a challenge. If in doubt just go by the simple rule...if it hurts don't do it. Also have you given any thought to biking? Keep in mind...proper form and proper motion....biking you'll want to be able to keep your knees partially bent throughout the motion. A good place to get started is
