Poems are also something I didn't enjoy in school. On my own time they're fine but on an exam? Blegh! Takes any fun out of them.
What do you need help with specifically? Metaphors are used a lot...that's a good one to know. :) Also, I found when analyzing poems, the teacher may give you credit if you back up your opinion well. I remember in grade 12 Lit I analyzed a poem -completely- wrong (it apparently was all about sex) but since I had my reasons he gave me the grade. Your teacher sounds quite nice. :)

this was the same exact thing with me in year 12 lit, i was so over poems, i was like 'this is so dumb, just because she employed this technique i doubt it meant that she was so unhappy in her life or whatever, maybe she just wrote it like that cos she wanted to!'
but then i just regurgitated everything the teacher said and the internet said and i did good in the essays. but poems are really stupid though, i think they suck.
