1:1 is normally referred to an isolation transformer rather than impedance matching.

It's actually present to damp the oscillations that happen in the flyback mode when the valve goes into cutoff, so apparently 'It's precise characteristics are in no way critical' according to Wireless World in 1947. Does need to be 1:1, though, and capable of dealing with the HT voltage.
