I got the Charlie Rose interview with King Abdullah II of Jordan in the mail yesterday, and started to watch it then, but my father called, so I started over this evening. It stood up well given my high expectations ( Read more... )

I like the guy. I think he wants to Liberalize his country, however, the society there makes it hard.

I certainly got the strong impression of the former, and I'd like to learn more about the latter. You never know, of course; these world leaders get to vet all the questions, etc. (gosh, sounds like "Quiz Show!"), so they get to look good too, but I got the impression that he was very knowledgeable, very sincere, and quite possibly very competent.

You probably do recognize it; I'm 99.44% sure that I'm actually quoting someone else fairly famous, but cannot for the life of me remember WHO! If you or anyone else on your friends list knows/remembers, please let me know.

I have this vision of myself sitting in a left-wing bookstore in Vermont (that's a redundancy; they're all left-wing bookstores in Vermont) and that being the title of a book I'm considering buying -- or something very like, which might mean it was taken from a famous quote.

So we are in the same place, wondering fitfully. Wish my list were more diverse than it currently is; we might figure it out! Maybe I'll put it up on a post if we don't get an answer in the next few hours.
