Akihiko was trying not to think of it like a date, either, as he went to go pick up Shinji on Christmas Eve. He passed several couples - all of them composed of a boy and a girl - as he walked to the agreed-on spot, and he had to admit his thoughts kept turning towards the fact that this was a date, not just two boys hanging out.

Unlike Shinji, though, he didn't really mind. He just worried Shinji was going to clue in.

He spotted his best--no, boyfriend - up ahead and waved as he bounded up to meet him. "Hey, ready to go?"

Fortunately - or was it unfortunately? - for them both, Shinjiro was really good at pretending to be oblivious. After all, his usual half-glower slouching position by the wall wasn't anything different than usual. And the eyebrow when Akihiko came dashing up to him like an eager puppy? That wasn't different, either.

"... Yeah." Shinjiro straightened from the wall, and walked a step towards his friend. Boyfriend. Whatever. Not going to think about that, thank you very much. He intended to enjoy himself despite these, er, issues.

"Where're we headed?"

"I thought we'd go to a movie," Akihiko said, grabbing Shinjiro's hand as he glanced around to make sure no one was watching. "There's this new one out I bet you'll like. It's got these blue cat people in it, or something."

In mid-sentence, they flashed back to Wales.

The disorientation of world-hopping - god damn it, would he ever get used to that? - distracted Shinjiro only momentarily from the offer. He blinked. Even if he did feel slightly dizzy from the momentary shift in reality, he couldn't have heard that right.

He'd blame the distraction later for why he didn't immediately release Akihiko's hand. "Blue cat what now?"

"I dunno, it's some kind of science fiction action movie," Akihiko said, grinning. "It's brand new in my time, so there's no way you'd know about it."

He continued to hang onto Shinji's hand happily as he strode down the street. "We can grab dinner first, though. It's still early."
