How I didn't walk out of my job last week I have no idea as it was an absolute nightmare. On Tuesday I arrived at work just before 7.30am and my boss hadn't arrived yet so I waited for him as I had left my shop keys at Dave's house and didn't go back for them on Monday as my boss has keys and my friend Bethan also has keys so I didn't need my ones. However, instead of my boss turning up, Cathy our newest sales assistant arrived and as soon as I saw her I realised I was obviously meant to be opening up but my boss hadn't told me or I'd have had my keys. The problem is Dave lives 30 minutes drive from the shop and he was at my house as he spent the night so I quickly phoned home and explained what had happened to Mum and she said she would go and get them and drop Dave off as well as he was signing on later on in the day. I ended up waiting outside the front of the shop to let customers know why I wasn't open and as Mum had to cross Swansea twice in the rush hour and school run I didn't open until after 9am when we should open at 7.30am. It was an uneventful day after that apart from my boss being pissy as 'I should have my keys on me at all times' so I pointed out he should have told me I was opening up which he admitted was true. I thought that would be the only crap to put up with but noooo!
On Wednesday I had to work on for 3 hours as our resident incompitent sales assistant Abi had the day off for her birthday ... wtf? You work if your birthday falls on a day when you are meant to go in - that's what evenings are for. In the afternoon our fireworks arrived which we weren't expecting so we had to leave them in the back corridor while we cleared the cupboard they go in and before we had a chance to do it the health and safety inspectors turned up to do a check. There were 2 guys and a woman and when they saw the fireworks in the corridor they got pissy so I said they had literally just been delivered, and Bethan was smoking in the staffroom - oops! I shot in and told her they were there and they had a moan but asked to see the cupboard the fireworks go in so we showed them it but it was obvious the boxes wouldn't all fit so they asked where else they are kept so I showed them the room in the stock room not thinking anything of it. They took one look in the room and went ballistic as last year's fireworks were stacked in their display boxes on the shelf with the cigarettes, lighters, matches, lighter fuel etc in the same room as well as numerous bags and boxes of stock. This is all a major breach of the rules as fireworks must be kept in the boxes they are delivered in as the cardboard is treated to not catch fire for 30 minutes and they mustn't be kept with anything flammable or paper. They insisted we get it sorted immediately and also made me phone my boss at home to talk to him about it so Bethan and I made a start clearing the room while they spoke to my boss. I don't know what they said to him but he said he would come down to the shop (he has wednesdays off and lives in Llandeilo). The inspectors said they would be back the following day to check everything had been done and left. I didn't know but Beth said they never show the stock room as she and my boss know it breaches the rules to which I was rather gobsmacked but I said I didn't know. We continued clearing the room but then when 5pm came around I left as I'd had enough by then and didn't want to see my boss.
The following day he didn't say anything to me but the inspectors came back and passed the shop as we'd done everything they had asked to apply with the regulations. I was wondering what was going on as my boss didn't say anything all day but then got pissy with me over nothing a bit later on in the afternoon which reduced me to tears so I hid in the stock room as by that point I was feeling really down and I'd had enough. I was glad to finish but had to go and get my wages off him and that was when he let rip telling me I should have got Beth to talk to them and not get involved as they never get shown the stock room and I said I didn't know, and he said I didn't need to know as only he and Beth should have dealth with the inspectors. He ranted that I have my set jobs to do so don't get involved with anything else and also had a moan at the fact I hadn't been able to open up on tuesday as I should have my keys on me at all times. I pointed out if he had told me I was opening up I would have had them with me so he muttered he was to blame but by that point I was in floods of tears as it was the final straw so how I didn't tell him where to stick his job I have no idea. I was then in tears walking home and burst into tears when I got home too and took ages to stop.
After all the crap with Dave' housemate Craig and his psycho bitch girlfriend Zuleika it was the final straw as I'm run down from the sinus bug I had as well as I had to work even though I was ill so after work on Friday I asked if I could have a couple of days off I was in desperate need for the break. I wasn't allowed the whole week but I've got Tuesday and Wednesday off which means 4 days break which will be bliss.
The only thing is Dave's windows are being replaced between today and Wednesday so it's noisy at his house but it's bliss to know I can completely relax for a few days and not have any crack of dawn starts until Thursday. We can't go away as we need to be at the house but not being near the shop will be nice as it's the down side to living and working in the same road. I'm home at the moment but am looking forward to going back to his place to chill and we're going to his Mum's tomorrow once the window fitters go home as well.
Fingers crossed the break does me good but I plan to look for a new job as I have had enough of being my boss's punching bag.
