I had to read this about four times before I realized that you were saying "I've put so much weight on this trip" and NOT meaning that you'd gained weight. I was like "he's only been gone for like two weeks! I know the food in Europe is awesome but how can that have happened so fast?".
You'll be happy to know that I wasn't put off by your fictional weight gain.
I love your backpack.

I think your backpack's pretty great, too...

Oh, wait. We weren't doing innuendo, were we?

Well, I guess your backpack's not bad. From what I've seen of it.

And now that I know I am free to gain weight, it's off to the Butter Museum!

europe won't culture-shock you; i tried doing that too. but after a few weeks, if you keep moving constantly, you'll reach sort of a zen-like disorientation. and you'll have lots of good stories, which seems to impress girls.

There was a great episode of This American Life a few months ago whose topic was about the high expectations we put on self discovery through a road trip or any kind of aimless travelling. That the need to physically go somewhere so as to represent the inner journey to enlightenment is so idealistic and perfect in our minds...that we build it up so high...we're almost inevitably setting ourselves for a let down. enjoy this trip and journey for what it is...and if you get something out of it, then good FOR you. And if not...well, the truth is...you're gonna get something out of it whether you like it or not. Let's just hope it's not V.D ( ... )
