I enjoyed your comments. Last year we went to Water Fire for the first time, and it *is* a magical happening. The streets are transformed into a place out of time where unexpectedly beautiful things can occur alongside of city life. We sat down to rest at one point in a small plaza and suddenly an opera singer came to perform right in front of us.

We were with a friend and her family; she has two small children (then about 4 and 7) who had never heard an opera singer before, and commented that her manner of singing was "weird" :-) The oldest child also thought it was strangely masculine that the female singer bowed after performing. Believe it or not, I didn't lose anything from the experience by hearing their comments... they lent a sense of seeing something for the first time and having to make sense of it as if it were in a foreign country or on another planet.
