The winter is finally visiting

Jan 03, 2016 20:44

It's been between -7 and -15 past few days and today we finally got a decent enough layer of snow. It's basically the first snow this year and I celebrated it with a several hours long walk in the snowfall. At first it was tiny flakes of hard snow which stung bitterly driven by the wind. Then it turned into a classic magical (Christmas) snow, white ( Read more... )

We are having the real winter here this week, the temperature plunging down to -10. What we lack is the real magical snow you described. :)

I never thought Seoul got that cold in the winter! We are having pretty similar weather, actually. For some reason I assumed Seoul to be similar to Kanazawa - it never got below freezing there, except only in mountains, and there was a lot of snow despite all that. But I suppose your climate is more continental...

This week we are having -7 to -10 C. And the snow keeps falling and falling. I remember, that last week, when it was really cold (even -20 on some days) I thought for a moment how fun it would be if there was a really thick layer of snow as well, but then I thought of poor deer and foxes who need to find food in the cold and snow in the forest, and I thought better of it. Now it is snowing anyway, and the funny thing is - after -20 the -10 actually feels mild and warm.

-20! The coldest temperature I experienced was -15, near the Canadian border. How do you survive such cold?

Korea's winter can be bitter, and last year -10 wasn't so uncommon. We also have crazy summer that easily go up to 32 and 33 with thick humidity. Must escape... Must... The positive side is that with this cold weather, Olympic organizers have no problem making snow for the Olympic ski slopes! Yes!

-20 is actually not that spectacular, at least when there's not much wind and you are dressed accordingly - it's amazing how adaptable humans are.

I have heard about your summer - Kanazawa had a fair share of humid heat as well, it was, well, interesting.

And yay for the Olympic snow. Although, with weather these days, who knows what winter 2018 will be like ...
