Icon making wasn't working for me tonight, so I decided to do another tutorial, requested by capelle over at ask the maker 2.0. Let me preface this by saying that it's not exact, because I don't save PSDs (usually) and the icon is several months old, so my style has changed since then. Interesting read (even though I only have elements haha), it is a nice insight! I love the reds you brought into the image, it is such a stunning contrast from the original

Thanks, Kat! ♥

The cap itself, once screened and soft lighted, looked kind of green to me XD. So in trying to remove that, I guess I did kind of lean toward the complimentary coloring.

Thanks for reading it! :D

WOW, your iconing process is so different :D very interesting to read, i absolutely love the crop and the astonishing reds that look powerful yet not overwhelming :) and your recreation is really close, the obly difference i saw is in highlight, in the new version they're slightly more cyan while the originals are closer to magenta :)
thank you very mubh for taking time and writing this tutorial, you are awesome :3

IS IT? :O I do copy merged a lot, and change those layers. Makes it really difficult to explain things, usually XD.

Anyway, I'm glad you like it! I see what you mean about the highlights -- that can probably be fixed in one of the color balance layers. I was eyeballing it the whole way, so this probably wasn't the way I did it in the first place.

Mine is maybe too complex and based on raiindust's base prepping way, so it's not really 100% mine but i'm bringing my own notes to it :D

The difference is really subtle, yeah either a Color Balance or maybe Selective Color (lol i used it A LOT)
