Welcome to the Sixth Annual Figure Skating Costume Awards! This star-studded three-day event celebrates the best, worst, and gayest in ice skating costumes. I choose the costumes from among the senior Grand Prix skaters' competitive programs (short program/dance and free skate/dance). They're eligible even if the skater later changed costumes. I used to think there was no such thing as too much bling on a figure skating costume, but Marchei has proven me wrong.

Sad thing is, I think I really like the color of her dress, if I could only see it through the glare.

skirt that literally blinds her partner during lifts

Reminds me of some of Ginger Roger's dresses when she danced with Fred Astaire - although most of those were at least attractive, even if they were somewhat dangerous to dance in. This? Is not.

Marchei is one of the many ladies' skaters wearing a beautiful color this season. If only it weren't completely covered up.

It was okay if Fred Astaire couldn't see; they could always film another take. In sports, it's another story.

My roommate and I spent the first half of Bobrova's free dance squinting at the TV, trying to figure out if her dress was really glued to her leg. We just couldn't believe that anyone would think that was a good idea, even by skating standards.

The saddest thing is, it's not the first dress I've seen with dress bits glued to the tights. It is always incredibly ugly.

yay! i love and miss these snarky posts. :) not that i'm saying you shouldn't have a life, but i love laughing at your snark, too. :)

i'm watching nutcracker on ice right now, which makes the reading of this post perfect timing. and either there's some serious timing issues with this program, or they did something really funky when they put the script together...

Glad you enjoy these posts! Sorry I've had to spend so much time away from fandom - it's a busy year.

I actually don't hate Rippon's outfit too much... I realise that that's not exactly a hymn of praise. :)

Some of these costumes are not just ugly, they have the potential to cause injury! Especially Bobrova's dress. Dear god.

Thank you for posting this gigglefest.
