"And that's the universe' grand plan? Giving Buffy superpowers so she can have destiny sex?" (Xander Harris, carpenter extraordinaire, who, due to Anya's and Spike's absence, assumes the role of snarky truth-teller). Thanks, Xan.

Oh wait, wrong 'verse. (Also, Torchwood has less stupid crack.)
Umm... Look! Penguins! (I've read a ton of reviews, and I've yet to think of a single thing to say. Why, Joss, why?)

And - yay! Penguins! The most consistent and logical verse out there!

It's the George Lucas effect - I'm sure there are lots of people out there who think the Star Wars prequels are the best thing *evar*.

In Joss I trust! He said there will be porn for three issues straight, so there will be porn. :)
Seriously - I noticed that Giles says it does make sense. Maybe he'll continue his explanations. His last words in #34 are "Twilight is here" - so the next issue he may be explaining what Twilight is and how Angel is connected to it. While B and A will destroy yet another dimension with their frolics.

...And allegedly lobotomized Willow. Yeah, I wondered about that. Not that I was expecting them to re-kill Warren and re-rat Amy without further ado (sweet though it would have been) but they're allowed to walk around and gloat?
As for the whole Universe-planned evolutionary leap, it's so utterly ridiculous I want to refuse to believe that this is really an explanation for the season arc. It's just... not only doesn't it make a lick of sense, but where the HELL did that come from? It makes the Pylea arc look like a 101% logical, seamless continuation of the Dark!Angel arc.
Glad I wasn't the only one who connected it to Childhood's End, though.

I'm not a comics expert, but I have the impression that it's a recurring theme in superhero genre. X-Men had a similar plot - and Joss was heavily involved in the verse.

I must reread Childhood's End. Haven't read it in ages. I still remember how shocked and mesmerized I was when I discovered it.

It really does.

The Time Wanderers by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky - but they're very rare. My guess is that Joss was inspired by Alan Moore's Promethea - a comic about a New-York college girl who embodies the powerful entity known as Promethea whose task is to bring the Apocalypse.
uuuhh, I love the Strugatskys. I'll have to see if I can get that one.
And yes, now that you say it, there are a few similarities with Promethea...only that Promethea is actually good. :)

People on Whedonesque are also wondering about the possibility of a threesome :)

*iz happy to find another Strugatskys's fan*
It's a great story about the birth of the race of superhumans, told from an outsider's POV. And it sounds convincing only because it's our, human take on the events.
I think that, be season 8 told from Xander's or Giles' POV, the story about them dealing with Buffy the Goddess theoretically could work. But a newly-risen God's story is hardly viable.

Well, it's been foreshadowed. (and will make me want to burn things)
