to an extent, words create our reality. so in a way they're not exactly false, since they create some of the real meaning for the people involved in the relationships. for example, if i say aloud, "i have a boyfriend," it creates a feeling that i didn't have before. and so i don't tend to say it. i agree, the titles complicate things unnecessarily.
