As people who know me have realized, I have finally discovered an interest in music, after 30 or so years of being mostly uninterested in it. This is largely thanks to filk, which I only seriously discovered a year ago. I have been a serial reader for as long I remember myself. Can filk be considered a music, if it is what filkers do when they happen to get together, i.e. an activity?

it may be that you will enjoy certain classical pieces more than modern music, as in nineteenth century people were, in fact, eager to write fantastic pieces.
Today music (I mean music and not the pop culture, which is different) is much more introvertive, and I dare to suggest you will not enjoy pouring someone's perception of everyday's life as much as you could enjoy a good fabula, interesting heroes, untrivial decisions, convincing villians and fascinating actions you can find in classical pieces.
