A plea: stop playing the "Pretty Woman" theme

Whenver a "cute girl" shows up on the screen (especially in talk shows, when they invite the "pretty face for the evening"), some inane director will think it is a good idea to play the Pretty Woman theme. Actually, no.

The song is quite a bit older than the film and was not written about a prostitute at all, but about Roy Orbison's wife, Claudette. In 1964. See the Wikipedia entry about the song for more information.

The song has no ties to prostitution, nor is it about prostitutes. The film of the same name is about a prostitute, a 'tart with a heart,' so to speak, and I doubt seriously if its usage was intended to be derogatory. Cliche notwithstanding, I imagine most beautiful women are flattered when that song is played for them as a lead-in.
