I did actually think about it.
Rice = 1,690 calories per pound.
Wheat = 1,645 calories per pound.

Rice
Pros: It won't kill my Carley. A few more calories per pound. It stores for up to 30 years.
Cons: I don't think it would grow well here, and some of the grain might need to be used as starter crops for food sustainability. If it did grow here... rice is very labor intensive. Incomplete amino profile (depends on how it is prepared). If cooked and stored at room temperature, it can make a person very sick (Bacillus cereus spores).

Wheat
Pros:Probably can be grown here. Can be used as a starter crop.
Cons:"Only" stores for 6-9 years. Kills people with celiac disease. Or at least makes their lives miserable.

Screw buying wheat, I'm just going to live in a Wal-Mart. It has everything I could ever need, and more firepower than a National Guard armory.
