I'm glad the ship is back in one piece.
[And... that's all he has to say about that. There are a lot of people that left. Whether or not it was Flagg's fault, it still bothers him. He doesn't think the proper Admiral could tell him where anyone goes when they leave, either.
So that's all he can come up with at the moment.]

The disc hums alive in his hand, heavy and deadly, outlined in a white blaze. CLU turns it over in his hands, careful. Then, after a few moments, he deactivates it and replaces it at his back.
It's a nice feeling.
But having its use controlled in this way, by a User? Not so much.
CLU's tone, either way, is pleasant when he finally speaks:] As you've said.
I am interested to see the system you create. What are the details of it?
[And then, in a voice that hints he's not entirely on board with the idea:] I see. Why do I need a job?

As for the job, it's a matter of having consistent input and remaining useful. It has also been very openly expressed how valued knowledge is on board this ship. I'd much rather put you in a position where you can use your abilities to protect and maintain it.
And if worse comes to worse, you can pick up a few different things to operate better in ports from looking at the books.

I can 'pick up things' regardless of whether I work there or not. [He's already visited the library a few times since his arrival here, and studied some of the books in an effort to understand the User world better.
But the way that Kay frames the library work appeals to him, on many levels. He understands the value of knowledge, the value of its maintenance and protection. And it drives him absolutely crazy to not do anything, to constantly sit idle like he does here.
So, despite the hesitance:] But the library may be acceptable.
