me: I'm back into fighting with the creepy obsessive gay-friendly Torchwood people I was telling you about last week. The ones that think jerking off to boys-kissing manga or giggling about which household appliances the bisexual lead character might fuck means they're tolerant gay rights activists ( Read more... )

Mm. I think I can both write slash and hate what happened on Torchwood. I'm not OFFENDED by it, but I am kind of offended that Jack killed his grandson and RTD killed his series. Torchwood has a way of making me hate all people everywhere. I WILL NO LONGER BE DOWNLOADING HIS SHOWS ILLEGALLY! Except for Dr Who. But whatever.

Oh, I hated it too, trust me. You're not the thing. I know you hate it when I paint fandom with such a wide brush, but...

Also, the show is TERRIBLE. COE is the only time I actually found it watchable. So the whole thing is like twice as ridic.

...but when fangirls are being retarded, they are being retarded. There's no way around it. At this point, I am almost immune to my second-hand embarrassment.

I start out liking each season, and then... each character becomes so completely horrible and unlikeable that I am happy when they are inevitably killed off. I think COE actually upset me more because I didn't end up hating the people who died, I just hated Jack. And Gwen, but I always hated her. Usually the Torchwood deaths are almost a relief, like, "Oh good, now I can stop seeing that cunt on my TV," but COE was more like, "HE's the one you're killing? And the child? Really?"

When it comes to Torchwood itself, I'm a cheaper date than you, I suspect. I loved the first two seasons, even when I didn't like them, even when I laughed myself sick at this or that episode. With CoE, I went back to loving it. And respecting it, which was a whole other box of WTF.

I thought it was good television, really really good television. Good skiffy, too. And, yes, occasionally mind-numbingly stupid - but ultimately, for me, haunting, powerful and surprisingly hopeful ( ... )

It's the internet. Sometimes it's helpful to step on some landmines, if only to remind yourself that none of this actually matters.
