I love the fact that from an evolutionary point of view, singing is probably completely pointless - an unexpected byproduct of vocal communication systems. I wonder if there are aliens that sing.

Anyway, what I *was* going to say is that if there are aliens, they probably sing. Patterns of vocal communication that are similar to human music occur all over the species on this planet, so would be likely to elsewhere. Except, except, and this is potentially even cooler, if the aliens don't use particle compression waves to communicate. Then maybe they would have light-shows like music, but *way* better than those on odd backgrounds on Windows Media Player.
