Interesting indeed, though its ultra-conservative tone is making me a little queasy, but I suppose that's to be expected from a magazine with a name "The American Conservative". :-) But, queasiness aside, it seems that some of the arguments in this article don't support the conclusions. For example, the article says Mexican-American neighborhoods in the US are low-trust, but it doesn't say it's because they are multicultural -- they are low-trust and high crime (if indeed they are) despite being culturally homogeneous. In fact, it seems that the author of this article uses the label "multiculturalism" as a euphemism for "Mexican-American culture"; it heaps the blame on Mexicans for infecting the US with low-trust culture; in contrast, it says about Asian immigrants that "Although most Asian-Americans originate in low-trust cultures centered around the family, they typically adapt well to middle-class American life because their high degree of honesty makes them dependable neighbors and co-workers.
