You know, unless you're a schizoid (I'm a bit of a schizoid, but not to this extreme), I think everyone has to some degree the need to feel needed, loved, and appreciated. That's really most of what motivation is about - it's not mere self-satisfaction unless you're really a selfish bastard. We are constantly seeking others' approval, in a way or another. When you give someone a gift, besides the show of affection, there's the desire to please. And I doubt anyone could not frown when the gift doesn't please.

It's our need to feel loved that makes us capable of love in the first place. If you only love and claim to not need to feel loved, or vice-versa, you're a hypocrite.

Which, clearly, you're not. You've just realized one of the basic conditions of your human nature.

And no one should reject you for it. <3
