I also need to start asking to put books on hold. Specifically ( Read more... )

So, I agree Bittman is in fact The Man in regards to current workings of making Foodies more knowledgeable and making food accessible without being crazy. That being said, I'd try to get to a bookstore and thumb through this book first. I've heard that there's really not that many recipes in it, but about half-ish is on what he considers "conscious eating," so what's organic, what's sustainability, why it's necessary, etc....

So I'd recommend checking it out first to see if it's really that useful or just another nice resource cookbook... Keep in mind though, that I do personally own 2 of his previous and have gifted a third cookbook of his to various people, so even if there's more words and fewer recipes, it still might be worth a sale price pickup....

Just to mention...

I'd get it mostly because I want to read the "other stuff", like the sustainability/local etc. piece. I have How to Cook Everything Vegetarian (made white bean soup from it tonight) and Minimalist Cooks Dinner.

yeah - I heard him on the radio talking about the book; it looks like a good one. Even may have Omnivore's Dilemma; he has some of Michael Pollen's others. Yay for knitting and trying things! Mom
