CHARACTER INFO
Name: Dave Strider AKA Davesprite
Age: 14
Species: Former human, current bird/ghost/sprite thing.

Series: Homestuck
OU/AU: OU
Canon Point: After [S] Cascade
History: Wikia
Personality: "Coolkid" is a term often used to describe Dave. He views himself as the most awesome guy around and often tells his friends they should be taking notes on how to be cool, he's just that good. Even when Dave first turns into a sprite and Alpha Dave asks the most important question "Why are they so awesome" he says it's the best question ever asked. With a reputation comes the negative side, and Dave's often more of an "insufferable prick" than he is simply cool, but his friends at least are somehow able to overlook such things and do nothing but feed his ego by always telling him how cool and awesome he is. But really, they're simply feeding his image. No matter how cool, or how "ironic", Dave tries to be, he has a very low opinion of himself. His mask is something he prides himself in, the perfect poker face no matter what the situation. He can handle anything with a shrug of his shoulders and a blank stare through his awesome shades, never letting a bit of emotion go through and express itself in any real form other than on occasion when he's by himself.

He was raised alone by his 'older brother' who is in fact his genetic father, though he's unaware of such a thing as Bro never got around to being truthful with Dave. As he grew he looked up to this brother, wanted to be just like him and often would mimic is every move, almost every habit, every expression. He thought there was no one in the world that was more awesome than his bro, and he firmly stuck to that belief no matter how weird or freaky some of Bro's hobbys were. He would defend him, using the term 'irony' to justify every sick and oddly degenerate hobby that his Bro had, also the lame ones. He doesn't have an actual concept of Irony, merely the Strider brand of it which isn't actually irony at all. Strider Irony is simply them slapping the word irony over something that would be normally socially unacceptable or considered completely lame and uncool, and making it cool just by their sheer willpower and aura. He has the image of a flippant coolkid, and that's all he needs to get away with things that most people can't, just like he learned how to do from his bro.

But even Dave gets that it's mostly bullshit, somewhere deep in the back of his mind. The puppets he once thought were cool when he was a kid give him nightmares, and he has a slightly unsettling feeling and most likely a phobia of plush rump by the time the game is set in motion, but even still he tries to tell himself they're cool because they're ironic and they belong to his brother who's the coolest ironic dude ever. He will never admit to himself the possibility that his bro is really just a creepy pervert with some weird fetishes.

Though even without admitting it, Dave's picked up the sexual undertones of most of the things his brother puts his time into. He can take any conversation and turn it into something sexual to throw off or unsettle someone if he's really trying, like he did in his talk with Tavros Nitram. The boy tried to troll him, and failed miserably as he freaked out by Dave's graphic descriptions of a possible sexual encounter between them and in the end ended up being the one to block Dave from his list. Rose has even stated before that most of Dave's dreams and a fair amount of what he says at times has serious homoerotic undertones, probably resulting from the phallicness of the numerous smuppets his bro liked to collect and often bury his little brother in.

Despite his sharp tongue and coolkid appearance though, Dave's insecurities with himself outweighs almost everything else. He doesn't believe he's good enough like John, never believing himself to be any sort of hero. He wasn't meant for great things, just to set shit up for other people to do the great things. He has no issues with this supposedly, accepting it as a simple fact of life. Which is why he didn't regret doing what he thought was right, going back in time and sacrificing his life and his already doomed timeline to save John and make sure he becomes the hero he was meant to be. But aside from that, possibly his biggest insecurity of all is his eyes. Even if Striders give off the no fucks given vibe, Dave clearly gives all the fucks as he never removes his shades. His eyes are an unnatural color, and as such he always keeps them hidden no matter what, going to great lengths to make sure he doesn't ever take off the shades even in the darkest areas. Even as a sprite, he still refuses to take off his shades. He wants people to believe he doesn't care what they think, when really he knows himself he cares too much.

Dave also has the inability to show emotion, he wasn't raised like a normal child and was taught to always hide himself and always keep his cool. Don't react to things, make sure no one can know what you're thinking. While good strategy for a fighter, not necessarily the best way for a child to be taught at a young age. He's socially awkward but covers it up with his coolkid persona and easily fools everyone to being none the wiser. He often goes to Rose with dreams or issues he can't understand, things that make absolutely no sense to him because they're either too messed up or too confusing for him to be able to process on his own. This way at least he realizes he does need therapy and instead of admitting he has a problem he just uses it as asking advice from a friend. Who happens to be an ace at psychology and possibly training to be a therapist herself. But really, it's just a totally cool conversation between friends, nothing wrong with that.

This however changes slightly over time. Four months playing the game with only Rose, hinted at being a year long time to him with all of his time jumping, helped him mature just a bit in that aspect. When he's upset with John for calling him fake Dave, he has no issues snapping at him and going off before brushing it aside. While still seemingly flippant, much more emotion than he would have shown normally as proven when Alpha Dave laughs off John's concerns about upseting him, saying that he wouldn't have cared if it were him.

He puts a lot of weight into his own beliefs, rarely taking the time to stop and consider just what someone else could possibly be planning. When things are taken out of his hands and going a different way, he becomes a bit more unsure and the coolkid mask slips just a bit, and while he used to retaliate with complaints and trying to push it back into his own hands, as a sprite he's learned to accept things the way they are. It's not his story anymore, he has no place to try and make it his. He's still stubborn as hell, willing to go to any lengths to achieve his goals and make sure everything stays in some sort of order he can follow. Even going as far as sacrificing everything, possibly even including something that could have healed or helped him, in order to make sure things will run smoothly in the Alpha timeline like when he had the sword repaired for Alpha Dave.

He's still highly dependable though, going as far as he can to help his friends and trying to make things easier on them. He'd rather carry all the burdens himself and allow them to live in blissful ignorance. Such is shown when he finds another dead body of himself in his room, a doomed Dave that had met with a tragic end. He doesn't want Jade to see it, so he throws it out of his window into the lava below. It puts him in a mild state of shock, having his own blood on his hands after disposing of his own body, but even the psychological weight of that on his mind was better than letting Jade see him and her getting upset over it. He lost everything he had and was willing to give up what little he had left to help Alpha Dave and his friends, make sure John didn't die and did whatever he could for Bro and Alpha Dave so long as he was by their side. And even when he wasn't needed anymore and gravely injured, he still went out of his way to try to do what he could to help. He tries to be considerate of others, he simply doesn't really now how to express it and most of the time trying too hard ends up in him coming off as a total self centered prick. Which really, he is to a very high degree and doesn't even have to try at, but there are good intentions there most of the time.

Powers: As a sprite, Dave no longer possesses the abilities he once did. He's part of the game now, instead of a key player in it. He has extensive knowledge of the game, but other than that nothing useful outside of it.
He is, however, still highly proficient when it comes to combat. The sword in his chest can still be used as a weapon whenever needed, and he knows how to kick ass and take names without even breaking a sweat. And thanks to his nifty wings and being a sprite in general, he also has the ability to fly. Which, considering he kinda doesn't have legs anymore, is kind of a given anyways.
Weaknesses: All of his insecurities and low opinions of himself. He doesn't believe himself to be a hero by default, and the fact that he's not even the Alpha Dave anymore and John even called him a fake only digs the knife deeper into the wounds. He doesn't let it show though, never hinting at how badly it hurts to know that he'll never see any of his friends again. He's satisfied with helping the Alphas get through all of their problems. His biggest weakness is probably the fact that he won't ever speak of any of it to begin with, instead bottling everything up into a little ball and never letting it out.
Possessions: His iShades and the sword through his chest will be the only ones.
Marking Location: Back of his right hand
Miscellaneous: Nothing that I can think of at the moment.

First Person:

You know, if I had been in a clearer state of mind I probably could have made a really good furry pun. Because come on, the outfit was pretty cool but she got dream Jade's dog ears to go with it. I mean, it was really cute and all and pretty fitting considering how she likes those kinds of things, but I could have at least said something about it to lighten the mood. Guess the shock just got to me or whatever.

[There, laying in a tree with his arms behind his head and wings and tail trailing over the side of the brach is Davesprite. Who is he talking to?]

Caw!

Yeah, I know right? What a lame way to say good bye, just stood there staring like a deer about to be hit by some drunk rednecks in a pickup truck.

[All around the branches above and below him are crows. And he seems to be perfectly content with talking to himself and pretending they're listening. It's ironic.]

I'm just glad they made it, happy for them and everything. I mean, I got lucky even escaping from Jack after what happened to Bro. Doomed timelines aren't meant to live, we're called doomed for a reason you know. Guess I'm just that damn lucky, or maybe the whole self prototyping thing gave me a get out of being fucked free pass. Probably the latter. Something had to make up for turning me into a feathery asshole.

Caw!

Caw caw motherfucker, not talking about you here. Though I'm sure you're all equal pains in the asses yourselves when it comes down to it, but I won't throw that out yet. Innocent until you fuck up and try to take something that's not yours and all that shit.

[Dave, what is your life even?]

Third Person: It wasn't where he was supposed to be, but did it really matter? He was nothing more than a toy in Jade's hand now, they had everything they needed to get shit done and didn't need him anymore. He had succeeded, thanks to him they had all been saved and risen higher than he could have ever hoped. It hurt, but somehow it wasn't as bad in whatever this place was. His wounds were healed and everything, good as fucking new, and he was free to roam the city. The chick that told him about the place was nice and considerate enough at least, couldn't be mad at her. And even if he had been brought against his will, he figured he wouldn't have been too angry anyways.

There were others here, brought in because of worlds being too close. Who knew? He might even find his John or Jade or even Rose around here somewhere. He didn't get his hopes up though, that would be too much to expect. But just what was there to do now? No imps to keep an eye out for, no big bad dog to take down or watch someones back. Those things should have bothered him, should have made him worry about where his life was going to go. But when you're some cross between a ghost thing and a dead bird you really don't have much else to complain about. No plans needed, just go with the flow and let shit happen. Maybe help out with the rebuilding that needed done, he was sure someone who could fly would probably come in handy with things like that.

So, that's exactly what he planned to do. Just wander around and see what the city had to offer and see whatever came of that. Before going into all that heavy lifting, part of him couldn't help but wonder about that forest that Sola mentioned. Irony, of course, a bird returning to the trees to chill for a bit for the fuck of it. Because why the hell not? He was free with no serious shit that needed taking care of, so there was no harm in a little mindless wandering.
