I'm glad that Helene wasn't bad near you. The destruction in the mountains is hard to fathom.

Because the storm surge was one of the worst, if not the worst ever seen around here, a lot depends of how far above sea level you are. Some just a few blocks or a mile away from us got so much flooding and damage. We are 18 feet above sea level where we live, and that is good. Our little Geraldson's Farm just a mile from us sits lower and got completely wiped out. They were closed all of September, planting and getting ready for season and now they are probably going to be closed most of October. I am so grateful that Pete and I came through with minimal damage. Our next door neighbor was up in North Carolina with their motor home in a campground and suddenly, without warning the ground under them started to wash away. They just got home here yesterday. And our Anna Maria Island and Village of Cortez were hit extremely hard with the storm surge and there isn't a home or business there that was not severely damaged.

Thanks for always thinking of us, Carole. I'm glad we're friends, even across the miles I feel close to you ( ... )
