Here's an interesting article. I emailed Bloomsbury myself a couple years ago about this and they were planning it. The expected publication date also used to be listed on Amazon.com as December 2006. But here you are ( Read more... )

That was pretty much my reaction, too, so language pardoned. ;) I hope the article will bring enough attention to it that they're pressured into publishing the translation(s) now - and reasonably soon.

if that includes the last book and seeing the films, i afraid i can't commit to that. lol

i don't buy anything else, so i think i'm already set...

I suppose we will just have to wait and see what the National Language Plans do, and then perhaps if the status planning begins succeeding, then we might have some movement towards translating Harry Potter into Gaelic.

The problem is finding translators who would be able to acurately translate Harry Potter into speech that is appropriate and for the most part understood by all. Ireland has had an established translation board in order to create new words etc and keep the language modernising when needs be, which is perhaps why it has already been published in Irish. Unfortunately we don't have this yet in Scotland.
