I went to the movies...
I went to the movies last night and watched Forrest Gump The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was pretty good. The Gump reference hit me about halfway through the movie, and I couldn't figure out why. I mean, it's not about a mentally handicap individual running into all these famous people and situations. But then I started thinking...
Let's just see where these similarities are, why don't we?
1. Lifetime afflictions!
Gump: He's mentally handicapped.
Button: He's born old and ages in reverse.
2. Early childhood mobility issues:
Gump: As a child, Gump has difficulty walking, and needs leg braces. Soon into the movie a miracle occurs, and he is able to run. "Run, Forrest! Run!"
Button: As a child, he is unable to walk and has to use a wheelchair. Soon into the movie a miracle occurs, and he is able to walk.
3. Motherly sayings:
Gump: Life is like a box of chocolates; You never know what you're going to get.
Button: Ya never know what's comin' for ya.
4. Wartime affairs:
Gump: Goes to 'Nam and gets shot in the butt.
Button: Fights in WWII in the Navy and destroys a submarine by running over it with a tugboat.
5. Captains:
Gump: Captain Dan!
Button: Captain Mike!
6. The people they meet:
Gump: Nixon, Elvis, JFK, etc.
Button: A former opera singer,a pygmie, a spy's wife, etc.
7. Financial windfalls:
Gump: He starts the Bubba Gump Shrimp company and ends up wealthy.
Button: He inherits his father's button making business and lives wealthy.
8. Journeys of discovery:
Gump spends a couple years running back and forth across America.
Button: Wanders the world, including Tibet, India, Japan, etc.
9. Love interests:
Gump: Is in love with his childhood sweetheart Jenny, who doesn't want anything to do with him for most of her life, but in the end comes to love him and bear him a child.
Button: Is in love with his childhood sweetheart Jenny Daisy, who doesn't want anything to do with him for most of her life, but in the end comes to love him and bear him a child.

Gump: Jenny dies in the end.
Button: Jenny Daisy dies in the end.

All that said, I really did enjoy the movie. :)
