They claimed several hours ago that they were working on the problem, so it's possible they've corrected some of the more egregious omissions by now.
Also, the deranking was limited to books. DVDs were not affected.
To answer your question: yes, I actually performed a number of searches.

Either way, it's not good for Amazon. If it was a "glitch" caused by a single employee's mistake, they need better safe-guards in place. If it was a massive prank pulled mostly by one troll, they really need to rethink their ranking mechanisms.
