A new genre of movie?

You're probably familiar with the term "torture porn" related to movie. Especially movies like the Saw series and Hostel and other "horror" movies that focus mostly on more and more deviate ways to maim, kill and torture people. I don't like, and have no desire to watch, those types of movies ( Read more... )

I've long considered these as the heirs of the mid-80's to early 90's "super action" films, like Commando or Cobra or Universal Soldier. Sure, they sort of had a plot, but it was really all about moving between the action set pieces as efficiently as possible.

And there's nothing necessarily wrong with that.

hmmm that has merit. Someone doenst buy a traditional porn movie for the plot they buy it for the skin. Ya dont go to see a "action porn" for the plot either, ya go for the car chase/expolsion/rapid fire. I hadnt thought if it much but that makes logical sense. That or exams this week have fried my brain.

And there was the xkcd comic where they came up with a good way to justify a contigous 90 minute fight scene, "River Tam kicks a lot of Ass"
