Well, I generally try not to be friends with people who've sexually assaulted me, and I also tend to think that people who commit violent crimes should "feel bad" about it.

Also, to compare this to other acts of violence and theft: I've never heard of anyone successfully arguing in court that they shouldn't be punished for, say, mugging someone, just because they were drunk at the time and didn't know what they were doing. And if someone, say, punched me in the face, stole my wallet, spent the cash, and then later claimed it was just a joke, I'd have to say that's not a very good joke.
