So... maybe this guy should try asking out someone he actually likes sometime. It's a nice thought, anyway. I might've thrown up a little when I figured out that you're supposed to sympathize with him, though.

creepy, keyboard cat, friend zone, play him off

o.O It's just so blatantly un self aware about how creepy it is to be the "friend" of someone you hate because you hope to get to sleep with them. When apparently the only reason for hating them is that they won't sleep with you?

Things like this make me glad I'm not more conventionally attractive.

I think, I say I think, this is supposed to be satirical. As in, the person who wrote the song is not only making the observation that there is a whole class of "hot" girls who have men at their beck and call, but also the observation that that couldn't happen if men didn't buy into it. I don't necessarily think you are suppose to sympathize with the protagonist. I sure didn't. I was shaking my head and thinking about all the guys I've seen behave this way.

I would like to think that, but even with the self-flagellation, I got the vibe that he's supposed to be everyman, not everydickbag. If it really is satirical, a ton of approving commenters didn't take it that way. :-/

Those commenters are the very people being satirized. Oh heck, I don't know. I just get the feeling that the person who wrote the song definitely understands how he is contributing to the problem.

I wish it were easier to tell with these things. It could be that the authors have a limited view of in what sense and for whom it's a "problem".

Sorry if you were just going to assume the best before I said anything. :-/
