"Uniform looks pretty good on you."
She turned around. "Jesus, John! Don't sneak up on me like that!"
Her brother grinned at her. "Anxious?"
"A little." She sighed. "A lot."
"You want something to eat?"
"God no. I'll throw up if I eat something."
"Grab some of the breakfast bars you like so much and take them with you. Trust me on this."
"Yes sir, Detective Hagen, sir," she said with a smirk.
"Bite me."
"No thanks."
He went over to her and put an arm around her shoulders. "You're going to do fine."
"I better. It would suck if I screw things up because I'd never hear the end of it from anybody." She rested her head on his shoulder. "You really think I'll be okay?"
"You're my sister. You'll do fine." He turned his head and kissed the top of her head. "Go or you'll piss your partner off."
"Fine. See you tonight."

"Two collars on your first day. Not bad," John said with a nod. "Not bad at all."
"I wasn't expecting that," she admitted, coming out of the bathroom. She'd changed out of her uniform and into sweats and a tank top after taking a long hot shower. "Guess my partner wasn't, either."
"You're going to make a name for yourself if you keep that up. Crime Lab will definitely take notice."
"It would be nice to work for the crime labs," she said with a smile. "That's what I'd really like to do here." She puleld the rubber band she'd had on her wrist off and pulled her hair up into a sloppy bun. "Too bad you aren't homicide. I could have covered perimeter at one of your scenes today."
"Who'd you work with?"
"Detective Tripp."
John nodded. "He's one of the best."
"A little rough around the edges, though. But you're right. He's good."
"Which CSIs showed up? I mean, if you know?"
"Um...Speedle and Delko, I think."
"They're good, too."
"You know, I didn't get to talk to them. I spent most of my time there getting orders from Tripp. But I got to watch them a little. I think I could do what they do eventually."
He nodded. "Dinner's ready."
"It was my night to cook."
"Figured I'd do a celebratory dinner."
She walked over to the kitchen and looked at the food. "Nice."
"Here."
She looked up and saw the beer he was handing her. Taking the bottle, she grinned. "To a good day," she said, raising her bottle and pointing it in his direction.
"To a good day," he replied, tapping the top of his bttle against hers.
She took a drink and smiled at her brother. Being a cop wasn't so bad after all...
